International Student and Scholar Services provides useful information about navigating life in the U.S. as a Temple student. Their resources and expertise include but are not limited to OPT, legal documentation, advice, and counseling on next steps for all immigration-related topics. 

The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) offers details about applying for the program and what students can expect.

Job Searching 

Handshake’s Jobs feature offers filters to identify employers willing to sponsor job visas or who accept Work Authorization. 

  • To begin, click on the Jobs link in the top navigation bar in Handshake. 

  • Next, click on the All Filters. A screen will pop up with the various filter choices. 

  • Scroll down to Work Authorization. There will be two check boxes. One for Will sponsor or doesn’t require US visa. The other for Accepts OPT/CPT

  • Check the box(s) that apply to you and then click Show Results.  

When registering for Career Fairs in Handshake you can also search for employers who will sponsor US visas and/or accept CPT/OPT. To get to these filters: 

  • Select Events from the top navigation bar in Handshake. 

  • Select Fair Search then click on the fair you are interested in. 

  • Click on the All Employers link. You will see Filters on the left. 

  • Under Categories, you will see check boxes for Will sponsor or doesn’t require US visa and Accepts OPT/CPT. 

  • Select the appropriate boxes to a see a list of employers attending the career fair that match the criteria. 

CareerShift is available for current Temple students and alumni. This tool has a filter to search job listings that include H-1B Visa Sponsorship, OPT (Optional Practical Training) for F-1 visa holders, and/or EAD (Employment Authorization Document). Utilize data from the Office of Foreign Labor Certification (OFLC) to identify companies that are known to sponsor H-1B Visas directly from the Job Search page under the Advanced Search options.

MyVisaJobs.com is a free and helpful tool for Visa and Green card holders to search for positions and get hired in the United States. You will find resources such as immigration attorneys, descriptions of occupations, and current wages in the U.S.
