Educational Best Practices and Assessment Research Intern
Flight Test Museum Foundation
Hi! I'm Jam Stebbins, a psychology major in the class of 2025. I'm a research assistant at Temple's Infant and Child Lab and editor at the Grey Matters journal. In the past, I've worked for several nonprofits in public health and outreach positions, as well as in developmental and educational psychology research and implementation.
As an Educational Best Practices and Assessment Research Intern for the Flight Test Museum Foundation, I'm working on initiating and scaffolding creation of a summer educational program on propulsion for middle schoolers in the LA Unified School District. This involves collaborating with subject-matter experts and aligning the content to NGSS standards. I also work on a second project providing literature reviews and background research for a future study on the effect of agile workplace project-management tools on the self-efficacy of high school students in an engineering extracurricular.
This internship is preparing me to conduct all aspects of research and collaborate with real-world educators and those who implement educational psychology practices, as well as to be self-directed on the direction a project will go.
I am so grateful to work with a small team of really competent, professional people who are all passionate about the two projects we are running. It is amazing how productive three or four people can be when they all care!
For anyone who wants to do an internship while in college, I cannot overstate the importance of making connections with people in your field who you genuinely like. Every great opportunity I've had, I have been pointed to or offered by friends, supervisors, or mentors who thought I would be a good fit. Dropping into your favorite professor's (or TA's!) office hours or asking to get a cup of coffee with a classmate can lead to a new opportunity!
