Isabella Mayo, College of Science and Technology ‘23

My name is Isabella Mayo (she/her/hers). I was a Biology major at Temple, and I graduated in Fall 2023. During my time at Temple, I was a Peer Mentor for Undeclared Students at the Academic Resource Center. I was involved in the Undeclared Students Club and Temple Tappers, Temple's tap dance team.

What are your career goals?

I hope to become a genetic counselor supporting people through learning and making decisions about their genetic information that impacts their lives and their families.

How has the Career Center helped you achieve your career goals?

The Career Center has helped me immensely. I came to one of the career coaches for help at all the stages of my applying for grad school - from picking what schools to apply to, to help with my personal statement and getting letters of recommendation to months later doing mock interviews with me. The career coach was so supportive and knew how to bring out what graduate school might be looking for from my application.

What tips do you have for students also navigating their careers?

I would say don't hesitate to reach out to advisors, professors, and the career center for help. They are there as a resource for you. They have knowledge, advice, and support to give you through what can be a difficult time whether that be applying for grad school or beginning your career. And believe in yourself you can do things you don't think you are capable of!
